The film centres on the contestants of a butter-carving contest at the Iowa State Fair. The script is apparently inspired by Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama's run to secure the Democratic Party's nomination for president in 2008.
Carrey would join the already cast Kate Hudson and Jennifer Garner in the project, reports New York magazine.
The 47-year-old would play a Bill Clinton-esque sculpting champ.
