'Alice' holds off 'Shutter Island' at UK BO

Alice In Wonderland has held off competition from Shutter Island to retain the UK box office crown for the second week running.

Alice's £7.3 million haul is more than double runner-up Shutter Island's $2.25 million, while Matt Damon's Green Zone debuts in third place with just over $2 million in ticket sales.

James Cameron's Avatar slips to fourth spot in its third month on release, while Richard Gere's dog tragedy Hachi is a new entry at five.

Elsewhere, Swedish thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo makes an impressive debut, bowing at number six with close to £400,000 in box office receipts.
