Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have signed on to pen the film adaptation of Existence 2.0.

Based on the science fiction series from Image Comics, the movie will be released by Paramount Pictures and produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.

Circle of Confusion's David Alpert will co-produce, while Gough and Millar will also serve as executive producers along with the studio's Rick Jacobs.

The original comic was written by Nick Spencer and inked by Ronald Sales. It follows "an amoral, self-absorbed physicist who finds his consciousness transferred into the body of the hitman who just killed him". The character begins to develop a taste for killing, until his daughter is kidnapped by the same people who ordered his assassination.

Gough and Miller's previous film credits include Spider-Man 2 and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor.

An official release date for Existence 2.0 is yet to be announced.
