A biopic about civil rights activist and labour organiser Cesar Chavez is reportedly in the works.

Screenwriter Keir Pearson and Larry Meli have optioned the rights to make a film about Chavez, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The project is set up at Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna's Mexico-based Canana Films.

Pearson, who is penning the script, was nominated for an Oscar in 2005 for co-writing Hotel Rawanda. He is also scripting a biopic about Pittsburgh Pirates player Roberto Clemente for HBO.
