Serkis: 'Hobbit to shoot end of the year'

Andy Serkis has revealed that The Hobbit will start production at the end of this year.

The Lord Of The Rings star told DS that he is expecting the two-part JRR Tolkien adaptation to go in front of cameras in New Zealand before 2010 is over. Sir Ian McKellen recently claimed that The Hobbit would start in July.

Serkis said that he is expecting director Guillermo del Toro to bring his own unique visual stamp to the world Rings helmer Peter Jackson brought to the screen.

"I think Middle Earth will still feel like Middle Earth," he commented "Guillermo's got a particular take on how he envisions it, that's why he's there. Peter, as producer, and the writing team want a fresh pair of eyes on the story."

Asked if the fantasy film will be released in 3D, Serkis replied: "I don't know what's going on with that debate... I love [3D], people are really beginning to understand how to use it dramatically now."
