'Modern Family's Vergara joins 'Smurfs'

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara has joined the cast of Sony Pictures's Smurfs movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Colombian actress will play Odile, an executive at a French cosmetics company who is married to the character played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Vergara appears to have replaced Jayma Mays in the role, though the Glee actress is still reportedly going to have some involvement in the film.

Raja Gosnell (Scooby-Doo) is directing the live-action/CGI feature and has recruited Hank Azaria, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Jonathan Winters and George Lopez.
