According to MTV, the picture stars Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose and Loretta Devine.
Perry said that the film will be shot in New York City this summer for an expected release in late 2010 or early 2011.
The picture is an adaptation of a play by Ntozake Shange written in 1975. The play was inspired by 20 poems about women who identified with different colours of the rainbow.
"Making a film of For Coloured Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf is a dream come true for me," Perry said.
Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? arrives in US cinemas on Friday.
