Vin Diesel for third 'XXX' movie in 3D

Vin Diesel has reportedly signed to lead a new 3D XXX movie.

According to Deadline, the star will reprise his role of Xander Cage for a third instalment of the action film franchise.

Original XXX director Rob Cohen will also return to helm the project for Paramount Pictures.

The film will centre on special agent Xander Cage taking on a new dangerous assignment in Europe. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to return as Xander's handler.

The picture will be shot with 3D cameras and is expected to arrive in US cinemas in late 2011 or early 2012.

"I feel what we did in the beginning of the decade was bring a different attitude to the action movie and a different kind of hero," Cohen said.

He added: "With the new 3D instrument and the techniques I can apply, we can create a different kind of cutting-edge experience in 3D by shooting it that way from the beginning the way James Cameron did Avatar."
