The film has been the subject of debate because the character Hit-Girl, played by 13-year-old Chloe Moretz, uses the word "c**ts".
However, Vaughn believes that people who have seen the film have changed their mind about the character.
According to The Mirror, he explained: "Dare I say it, but the only people who complained really were the Daily Mail, and everyone who's seen the movie, suddenly they go, 'Oh'. It's comic book, it's fun and she's a minor character in the film."
Vaughn also complained that screenwriter Jane Goldman, who is married to Jonathan Ross, faced most of the criticism.
He said: "I get annoyed with people complaining about the swearing in the film, because in Fish Tank the swearing is far worse and far more realistic and no-one's complained about that and I thought, 'Why are they picking on Jane?'
"And no-one's complained about me. I thought if they're going to have a fight, why not pick me. Jane just did what she was told."
