Paul WS Anderson has spoken about going 3D for the fourth instalment of the Resident Evil franchise.

The director told MTV News about his efforts to make Resident Evil: Afterlife the most impressive film in the series.

"My intention was to make this like T2 was to The Terminator," he said. "It's the same franchise, but it's bigger and it's improved and it's making a large conceptual leap.

"In terms of me coming back as a director, 3D was a big part of that. Avatar was a big influence on us.

"The difference is Avatar is predominantly a 60% animated movie, and all I have is CG. But I can't tell you how beautiful this camera system makes movies look in 3D, and how much depth you get."

Anderson directed the first Resident Evil movie, and has produced and written on every film in the franchise.
