The Transformers star could replace Rose McGowan in the Nu Image/Millennium Films picture, reports Pajiba.
It is said that McGowan, producer Robert Rodriguez and original director Douglas Aarniokoski are no longer attached to the project.
Red Sonja was invented by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard and adapted for Marvel Comics by Roy Thomas.
The film would follow the character seeking vengeance on those who destroyed her family and fighting to save the land of Hyrkania from the evil Kulan Gath.
There is no reported production start date for the project.
