The Wackness actress will star in the sci-fi thriller directed by Chris Gorak.
The plot follows a group of American tourists in Moscow who are present at the scene of an alien invasion. According to Total Film, Thirlby will play a "trust fund girl" who survives the attack and teams up with others to defeat the invaders.
Gorak and Josh Zetumer are currently re-drafting the script, which was written by screenwriters MT Ahern and Leslie Bohem.
The movie will begin filming in Moscow this summer.
