According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Star Trek actor is in line for the lead role of Charley Brewster, played by William Ragsdale in the original 1985 movie.
The update is staying close to the original's concept, which featured a teenage boy dealing with his vampire neighbour.
Michael De Luca and Alison R. Rosenzweig are producing the remake. Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman have signed to executive produce.
Mad Men writer Marti Noxon penned the screenplay.
