The Pirate Radio star claimed that the film's director James Keach originally wanted Robert Pattinson for the starring role in the movie. At the Saturday New York premiere of Waiting for Forever, Sturridge explained how he landed the part.
"I saw the script on the floor of Rob's apartment when I was staying on his sofa," Sturridge said, according to New York Daily News. "I thought to myself, 'I could do this better than he could!', so I called up my agent the next morning."
The film's producer, Trevor Albert, conceded that Sturridge was a good match for the role, though he conceded that Keach took a bit more convincing.
"We got a call from his agent who told us Tom loved the script, and we were like, 'We don't remember sending him one'," Albert stated. "Finally, we were worn down and just said, 'All right, let's let him come in'."
Sturridge will play the part of Paul in the upcoming film Maestro, directed by Catherine Jarvis.
