Emile Hirsch signs on for 'Darkest Hour'

Emile Hirsch has joined the cast of upcoming film The Darkest Hour, according to Empire Online.

The Taking Woodstock actor will star alongside Olivia Thrilby in the bio-terror drama, directed by Chris Gorak.

Hirsch will play the leader of a group of travelling American teens who unwittingly get caught up in an interplanetary battle in Russia.

Producer Timur Bekmambetov recently opened his custom-built production facility in Moscow for the commencement of the film this summer.

Hirsch is currently filming the latest adaption of Shakespeare's Hamlet, directed by Catherine Hardwicke.
