Tom Hughes has revealed that rock stars Richard Ashcroft and Liam Gallagher inspired his Cemetery Junction character.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Hughes admitted that he drew from the Verve and Oasis frontmen when playing the rebellious Bruce in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's directorial debut.

He said: "I'm massively into my music so often my terms of reference would be music. It'd be, 'Alright, I'll be a bit more [Richard] Ashcroft in this moment. A bit more [Liam] Gallagher in this'. I think Bruce is a rock star in his head. He's got that swagger, that lust for life. He's a lot of fun to play."

Cemetery Junction opens in UK cinemas tomorrow.
