Warner Bros has secured the rights to the project and will make the film through the new production company Efron has set up at the studio.
Snabba Cash, which translates as 'Easy Money', is based on Jens Lapidus's novel and was a hit on release in its native country earlier this year. The movie is made up of three interconnecting storylines involving drugs and organised crime.
The English-language revamp will cast Efron as a hotshot financial worker who becomes a runner for a cocaine dealer.
Major Hollywood studios Universal, Summit Entertainment, Paramount, 20th Century Fox and The Weinstein Company were all vying for the Snabba rights before Warner Bros emerged victorious in the bidding war.
