The Last Beat, which is to be written and directed by Robert Saitzyk, will follow the lead of Gus Van Sant's depiction of Kurt Cobain in Last Days, avoiding potential legal issues in a similar fashion by only basing the main character on the ill-fated Doors singer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will feature a Morrison-esque lead named Jay Douglas - a famous American rock star who purportedly rose to fame in the early '70s. The picture will centre around his final days as he "navigates his relationships with two women in Paris - a glamorous French countess named Clemence and his California 'soulmate' Valerie Eason".
The real Morrison lived in Paris in 1971, making his last recordings with street musicians and dying of what is widely accepted as a heroin overdose in the bathtub of Pamela Courson - Eason in the movie. However, conspiracy theories concerning his death are still rife to this day.
Shawn Andrews, star of Saitzyk's debut feature After The Flood, is to appear in the project.
