According to Variety, the Last Airbender actor will join Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in the comic book adaptation.
Star Trek screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman penned the script. Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau is directing the picture, based on the graphic novel series created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.
Cowboys & Aliens is scheduled to arrive in US theatres July 29, 2011.
The Last Airbender opens July 2.
