The Beavis and Butthead and Extract creator wrote and directed 1999 comedy Office Space, which performed poorly at the box office but became a hit on DVD.
Judge told The Guardian: "There were moments when I thought, 'S**t, is this just something that just me and my brother and my old roommates are gonna laugh at, and no-one else?'. But it started catching on after people saw it more than once.
"Even some people who edited it didn't get Office Space. But three years later the head of the studio came up to me and bellowed, 'WHO KNEW?' at the top of his voice."
Of the promotional campaign for his 2006 directorial follow-up, he added: "On Idiocracy they said, 'This'll be just like Office Space. So what did we do wrong on Office Space? We spent money on trailers. Not this time!'.
"And I can kinda see the logic: if it's gonna catch on and become a cult thing on DVD then why even bother with a trailer?"
