The movie, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Marton Csokas and Aden Young, will be presented at the festival's close after the Tim Burton presented awards ceremony.
An adaptation of Judy Pascoe's novel Our Father Who Art in the Tree, the film was shot in Australia.
The Tree is the director's second feature after Depuis qu'Otar est parti... (Since Otar Left), which won the 'Critics' Week Grand Prize' at Cannes in 2003.
As previously announced, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe, will open this year's festival.
