Matthew Vaughn is in talks to direct X-Men: First Class.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the helmer had previously rejected the opportunity to lead X-Men: The Last Stand. The job eventually went to Brett Ratner.
The project is thought to be an origin story for the X-Men team, featuring Cyclops and Jean Grey in their younger years and played by younger actors.
It is unknown whether Hugh Jackman will appear as Wolverine, last seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as his character doesn't age.
The script comes from Jamie Moss and is based on a treatment by original X-Men director Bryan Singer. Though the studio had wanted Singer to direct once again, the director is only signed on to produce, as he is preoccupied with directing Jack the Giant Killer for Warner Bros.
