Pitt and Jolie shoot to number one

Mr & Mrs. Smith has eliminated Madagascar from the top spot in the North American box office chart.

Doug Liman's black comedy actioner, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married assassins ordered to kill each other, took $51m (£28.2m) in its first weekend, whilst the dethroned Madagascar earned itself $17.1m (£9.5m), bringing its total to $128m (£70.8m).
