According to a source close to UGO, the actor is in line to play an unnamed character in the Marvel Comics adaptation.
No details were revealed of the role, but it is has been speculated that Lee Jones could portray the leader of the story's 'Super Soldier' programme.
It was previously reported that Chris Evans has been handed the title role, while Hayley Atwell will play love interest Peggy Carter. Hugo Weaving is thought to be on board as antagonist Red Skull.
Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger is slated for release on July 22, 2011.
