The actor, who plays Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, explained that the costume was extremely uncomfortable.
According to The Mirror, he said: "I was excited until I got it, then I was de-excited.
"Really, it's wearing a 50 pound piece of metal on your back and chest, and you can't touch your face, you can't go to the bathroom or sit down."
He continued: "[You feel] completely ridiculous. I don't know why my war machine suit was made of metal and Robert [Downey Jr.]'s was made of light fibreglass. Maybe it was an initiation."
However, Cheadle added that he loved working on the film, explaining: "It was cool. The thing about the film is that you get to play with the best toys and the best technology. It's just doing the things you like to do as a kid but fleshed out."
