Mark Hamill is in the running to appear as the villainous Joker in a sequel to Batman Begins.

An internet shortlist sees Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, join Crispin Glover and Lachy Hulme as a potential Joker in opinion of fans.

Hamill previously voiced the villain in the animated Batman animated television series.

WENN quotes a spokesman for Batman website Darkhorizons.com as saying: "The net basically picked Christian Bale to play Batman, so who knows."

Batman Begins is released in the UK tomorrow, boasting performances from Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.
