Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener have signed to co-star in upcoming indie movie Peace, Love and Misunderstanding.

Bruce Beresford will direct the picture from a script by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The plot centres on a young conservative lawyer (Keener) who takes her family to live with their hippie grandmother (Fonda) in Woodstock.

Production is expected to begin in July in New York's Hudson River Valley.

The role marks Fonda's first screen appearance since 2007's Georgia Rule.
