The project, which kicks off its eight-week production schedule in London and Hungary next week, also features Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging's Georgia Groome, Steven Mackintosh and newcomer Toby Hall in the cast.
Yann Samuell is directing from screenwriter David Solomons's adaptation of Eva Ibbotson's New York Times bestseller.
The story centres on Humphrey Craggyford (Hall) and his family as they are kicked out of their home and must find a new place to haunt. They later discover that they are not the only spirits and must fight for the rights of their people.
"When I first read an early draft of The Great Ghost Rescue I immediately fell in love with Humphrey and this dysfunctional family - they were instant classics to me," said Samuell.
"It's the kind of film I have always wanted to make for my own five children. Characters make a movie, and although these characters are dead, in story terms they are so alive. I think Britain has the best actors in the world, and we are so happy to have Kevin, Jason, Emma and young, fantastic, Toby to breathe life into them."
