Anthony Hopkins is closing in on the villain role in Arabian Nights.

The Oscar-winner will play Pharotu, a sorcerer who killed Sinbad's mermaid love and is hungry for more magical powers, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Liam Hemsworth, whose brother Chris will appear in Thor with Hopkins, will lead the cast as a young commander who teams up with Sinbad, Aladdin and his genie to free Queen Scheherazade and her kingdom from evil.

Chuck Russell (The Mask) is on board to direct the 3D Nights from a script by Barry P. Ambrose. Shooting is expected to start at the end of the summer.
