The Splice helmer expressed his interest in making a film based on the DC Comics character in April.
Speaking to MTV, Natali has now revealed that rights issues have held up the project.
"Unfortunately, there is no Swamp Thing movie in the works right now because of all the legal entanglements involved with that particular property," he said.
Natali added: "I'm told it won't happen any time soon. [Matrix producer] Joel Silver was going to do Swamp Thing, and he actually had a couple of scripts in, only to discover later on that the film rights were held by another company."
Natali's Splice opens June 4 in the US.
