The 'No More Drama' singer has signed to star in filmmaker Cynthia Mort's Nina, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie will centre on Simone's relationship with her assistant, to be played by David Oyelowo.
The film, financed by Ealing Studios, is to begin shooting this fall with a budget of $10m (£6.8m).
Mort has previously served as producer and writer for Roseanne and Will & Grace.
