The Clash Of The Titans star will play literary hero Allan Quartermain in the sci-fi action-adventure film, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie is set in a time in which humans have left Earth and sees Quartermain returning from outer space to embark on a planet-wide adventure.
Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are also producing. A director is not yet attached to the project.
