The project will mark French screenwriter and director Pascal Laugier's first English-language movie, reports Screen Daily.
The story centres on a woman who was kidnapped as a child by a shadowy figure known as The Tall Man.
"I like to think of The Tall Man as a sort of Panic Room... outside," Laugier said.
He added: "It is a 'woman in jeopardy' movie with a lot of twists and a strong female character that you feel very connected to."
Production is scheduled to begin in September in Vancouver.
