According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will play the title role in the 'epic love story' which centres on a young woman who finds she is unable to die after an accident. She later meets a man for whom she decides to give up her immortality.
The project will be financed by Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel, with Heigl serving as one of the film's executive producers. Filming is expected to begin in October.
The former Grey's Anatomy star can be seen next alongside Ashton Kutcher in Killers, which opens in the US on June 4 and in the UK on June 16.
