Boss the dog from Stephen Frears's Tamara Drewe has won the tenth anniversary 'Palm Dog' at Cannes.

The special collar created by Toby Rose in 2001 to recognise "the best canine performance across all the sections of the festival" was awarded to Boss at the UK Film Centre at a ceremony yesterday.

Rose said: "The 'Palm Dog' can look back with pride on a dazzling decade of dogs on the big screen. This year has shown itself to be vintage as canines came through in fine style. Hurrah for the hounds."

Goatherder's dog Vuk from Directors' Fortnight winner La Quattro Volte picked up the 'Special Jury Award' at the ceremony.

Last year's 'Palm Dog' was given to Dug, the animated canine from Pete Docter's Pixar movie Up.
