'StreetDance' beats 'Persia' at UK box office

StreetDance has beaten Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time to emerge as the number one movie at the UK box office.

The 3D dance film upsets the Disney blockbuster, taking in £2.5 million against the £1.3 million weekend haul for Jake Gyllenhaal's video game adaptation.

"The success of StreetDance 3D has far exceeded our expectations," said producer James Richardson. "The fact that an independent British film has beaten the US heavyweights just shows how well StreetDance 3D has connected with audiences across the country."

Last week's chart leader Robin Hood falls to number three, while Iron Man 2 and Bollywood production Kites round out the top five.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Cage and Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans is the only other new chart entry at number nine.
