The December 25 date will put the comedy in competition with Steven Spielberg's The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn and Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo, which both open two days earlier on December 23.
Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), who penned the screenplay for the project with Nicholas Stoller, will also front the cast. Flight Of The Conchords director James Bobin is on board to helm the movie.
The film, which carries the working title The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, will be the seventh to feature Jim Henson's puppet creations. The last entry in the series, Muppets From Space, opened in 1999.
