The actor reprised the role of Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) ex-boyfriend Aidan Shaw for the big screen sequel, which saw his character bumping into Bradshaw while on holiday.
Speaking to People, he said: "I was a little dismayed that critics treated it so harshly.
"It's hurtful to hear people put it down for what I feel is an unfair reason. I've been in a lot of movies, and I know when I've been in one that's not that good. This isn't one of those."
When asked whether he thinks there will be a third instalment in the movie series, he suggested that it was "all about commerce" and how much profit the studio makes.
"If the studio makes some money, they'll say, 'OK, let's try this again'. I think they'll try it again and again until it just doesn't look like a winning proposition."
Corbett - who recently said that he might marry girlfriend Bo Derek in the future - is not the only franchise star who has spoken about a third movie. Parker previously admitted that she hopes her character "lives on" and that she is "blessed" to have been given the opportunity to share her story.
