Citing inside sources, the website has claimed that the Brit actor is "locked" for the role of Albert in Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's novel.
The story centres on Albert's quest to reunite with his horse Joey after the animal is sold to the cavalry at the outbreak of World War I.
Redmayne's acting credits include Black Death, which is in UK cinemas from tomorrow, Glorious 39 and the TV adaptation of Tess Of The D'Urbervilles with Gemma Arterton.
Speaking to DS about War Horse last week, screenwriter Richard Curtis said: "I'm having a lot of fun with [it] and Steven Spielberg is absolutely brilliant. What's happening now is he's taking my script and then saying, 'Oh no, we don't need those two pages of boring dialogue because I can do this one brilliant visual thing that does everything'. That's very exciting to watch."
