The movie is based on the Japanese science fiction novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, reports Deadline. Warner Bros is backing the project, adapted by screenwriter Dante Harper.
The book's story centres on a solider who is killed while fighting against an alien species and lives the last day of his life over and over again.
Spider-Man's Sam Raimi was also in negotiations to possibly direct before moving on to The Great and Powerful Oz at Disney.
According to the report, Warner could put its proposed Three Musketeers project on the backburner in favour of All You Need Is Kill.
Liman's films include Jumper, The Bourne Identity and the upcoming Fair Game.
