The 17-year-old is attached to the Paramount and MTV Films project, which follows a teen girl called Janie who finds herself pulled into people's dreams without warning. Disturbia's Christopher Landon has been hired to write the script for the feature.
Wake is the first book in McMann's New York Times best-selling trilogy. Its sequels, titled Fade and Gone, explore Janie and her boyfriend Cabel's investigations into their school teachers.
The backers are hoping that Wake will be the first movie in a franchise.
Cyrus can next be seen starring opposite Demi Moore in LOL: Laughing Out Loud.
