Speaking to MTV, the Killers star revealed that he auditioned to play the superhero and also tried on Superman's blue and red suit.
"I wore the Superman suit. I did a screen test in the Superman suit," the 32-year-old said.
The actor added that he is not certain which director he auditioned for.
"I forget who it was... I think it was [Brett] Ratner," he said.
"There is [footage of my audition out there], with Keri Russell, who was reading Lois [Lane]. There's me in a Clark Kent outfit, and then there's me in a Superman outfit."
Kutcher said that the role and suit "did not feel right" and that he looked "like a rail with fake muscles".
