Jeff Bridges is to lend his voice to a animated penguin in Surf's Up for Sony Pictures Animation, reports Variety.

The film tells the story of a young surfing penguin (Shia LaBeouf of I, Robot) who is preparing to enter his first tournament. Bridges will play the hero's mentor, a former surfing champion.

Also starring are James Woods, Michael McKean and Zooey Deschanel.

The studio are hoping for a 2007 release.
