New screenwriter hired for 'Akira'

The Henry Poole is Here writer will team with director Albert Hughes to adapt the Akira manga volumes and the 1988 anime film, reports Collider.
According to producer Andrew Lanzar, studio Warner Bros is enthusiastic about the project.
"Akira happens to be something that Warner Brothers management loves," Lanzar said.
He added: "They see the value in the title. They see the value in the franchise, and what the underlying property meant. It's a pretty seminal piece."
