J.R.R. Tolkien fan site TheOneRing speculated earlier this week that the District 9 helmer might be attached to direct the prequel to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films.
However, a source at Blomkamp's agency William Morris Endeavor has said that MGM/United Artists or Warner Bros. have not contacted the filmmaker about directing the project.
Blomkamp is instead said to be working on an original sci-fi script called Elysium.
