Ridley and Tony Scott are producing the project, based on a spec script by Will Dunn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Studio Fox 2000 is said to be in negotiations to greenlight the movie for production and distribution.
Ion follows a man who travels to different Earths and dimensions in search of his lost love. Executives are thought to be comparing the picture to Avatar.
Tatum was also recently cast in The Vow co-starring Rachel McAdams.
