Sir Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald will team up to make a documentary film compiled from YouTube footage.

The filmmakers behind the project, titled Life In A Day, are asking people around the world to capture their lives on video on Saturday, July 24, then upload it to the video-sharing website.

Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland) will direct the movie, with Scott and his Scott Free Productions firm serving in producer roles.

Those who have footage selected for Life In A Day will be credited as co-directors and 20 contributors will be flown out to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival for its world premiere.

"Life In A Day is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010," said Macdonald. "It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world's online community."
