Iannucci, who co-writes the character with Steve Coogan, Peter Baynham and Patrick Marber, posted an update on the project on his Twitter account yesterday.
"And the Partridge news is that we've now agreed a story for the film. It's NOT Alan goes to America," he wrote.
Partridge star Coogan last year said that the big screen spinoff would take his hapless chatshow host character to the US.
The character first appeared on the Radio 4 show On The Hour in 1991, later moving to TV with The Day Today, Knowing Me, Knowing You and I'm Alan Partridge.
