The Pixar duo were among several filmmakers, including John Lasseter and David Fincher, who were screened an early cut of director Joseph Kosinski's science fiction movie earlier this year to get feedback.
Bird and Arndt were subsequently hired to lend a hand to screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz prior to the six days of additional filming in June.
"Tron is very much Joe Kosinski's vision, a vision which is thrilling to me and I hope is thrilling to the fans," said Disney president of production Sean Bailey. "What I give Joe and the filmmaking team immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a part in it."
Bailey added that he is hoping Tron will set a benchmark for further collaborations between Disney's "formidable partners" Pixar, Marvel and DreamWorks.
Tron Legacy, starring Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen and Jeff Bridges, opens in cinemas and IMAX on December 17.
