The film is apparently viewed as a semi-sequel to the 2006 film and will take place in the same world as the original's setting, Radiator Springs, according to Movieline.
Cars 2 is due for release in June 2011, with Pixar's chief creative officer John Lasseter confirmed as co-director with Brad Lewis.
